The Minder Podcast is greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Dennis Waterman, at the age of 74.
Dennis was a truly underrated actor and will be greatly missed on screen. Luckily he appeared in so many different television and film productions that he leaves behind a great legacy which can be seen and appreciated again and again.
His work in Minder is absolutely unparalleled and no one could follow his role as Terry McCann. To this day, the greatest episodes are those featuring Arthur and Terry.
Gary Webster was a decent Minder as Ray Daley but the memories of Dennis’ seven series with George Cole and the other recurring members in and behind the scenes, were too great to overcome.
Simply put, there really only ever was one Minder and that was Dennis Waterman.
Out of respect for his immense contribution to the programme we will be off air for the next 7 weeks – one week for each of the series in which Dennis appeared.
We will be back in the last week of June. In the meantime, the shows have been archived if there are any you have missed so far.
Rest in peace Dennis and thank you for the memories.
Such sad news.
As a huge Minder fan/nerd this podcast is a wonderful listen, the recent Andrew Payne episodes have been a really fascinating insight.
Look forward to new episodes in a few weeks.
Regards
Simon.
I’m beyond devastated at Dennis’s passing. Minder has been a constant in my life since it was first aired, the box set is always ready to be watched. Of course there were many other great series with Dennis in, most notably The Sweeney (of course) but Minder (with Terry) will always be my absolute favourite.
I can’t bring myself to watch an episode at the moment but when I’m ready it’ll probably be either ‘poetic Justice…innit?’ or ‘a load of bull and a pat on the back’… particular favourites.
God bless, Dennis x
Simply the best television show ever made in the history of the world
